Disney’s “Mulan,” potentially one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, has been delayed because of the coronavirus.
Disney announced it was moving the film’s release out of an abundance of caution. The film, a live-action remake of the beloved 1998 animated film about a Chinese female warrior, was set to debut in North America on March 27.
“We are so excited to share this film with the world, but given the current ever shifting circumstances we are all experiencing, unfortunately, we have to post pone the worldwide release of MULAN for now……”
“Our hearts are with everyone the world over who is affected by this virus, and we hope that Mulan’s fighting spirit will continue to inspire those who are working so hard to keep us all safe.”
Starbucks has joined other food and beverage chains in taking action to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus that has infected more than 100,000 people across the world.
Starbucks baristas have paused filling personal cups or “for here” mugs in stores. However, the coffee chain will continue to honor its customary 10-cent discount to customers who bring their own mermaid tumbler cup or ask for an in-store option. So at least your wallet won’t take a hit in the process.
Apple blossoms in March and an earlier start to picnic season may seem harmless and even welcome. But the early arrival of springtime warmth has many downsides for the natural world and for humans.
Rising temperatures in the springtime signal plants and animals to come alive. Across the United States and worldwide, climate change is steadily disrupting the arrival and interactions of leaf buds, cherry blossoms, insects and more.
Records managed by the USA National Phenology Network and other organizations prove that spring has accelerated over the long term. For example, the common yellow trout lily blooms nearly a week earlier in the Appalachian Mountain region than it did 100 years ago.
Blueberries in Massachusetts flower three to four weeks earlier than in the mid-1800s. And over a recent 12-year period, over half of 48 migratory bird species studied arrived at their breeding grounds up to nine days earlier than previously.
Warmer spring temperatures have also led beetles, moths and butterflies to emerge earlier than in recent years. Similarly, hibernating species like frogs and bears emerge from hibernation earlier in warm springs.
In 2016, Ikea recalled 29 million Malm dressers after six children died when the furniture toppled over. And in January, Co.Design reported that Ikea had agreed to a $46 million settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit brought by parents of a toddler who was killed after a Malm dresser tipped over on the child.
Ikea’s pet furniture has also led to the death of animals in the past.
In this case, Ikea is warning customers that they if they have not properly anchored their Kullen dresser to the wall, they should discontinue using it immediately, and either return it or anchor it.
Last year, Ikea launched an app, along with an ad campaign, inviting consumers to learn more about how to install furniture safely, including room-by-room tips based on a child’s age.
