The Tokyo 2020 Olympics torch lighting ceremony in ancient Olympia will be the first in more than 35 years to be held without spectators after organizers on Monday introduced tighter measures to protect against the coronavirus.

Greeces Olympic Committee said spectators would be excluded from both the dress rehearsal at the ancient site on Wednesday and the widely broadcast ceremony on Thursday.

This is the first time since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics that the ceremony will be held without any spectators lounging on the grassy slopes of the ancient stadium in the tiny Peloponesian hamlet. The ceremony - held both for summer and winter Games - usually attracts several thousand spectators, including Greeks and foreign visitors.

Our scientists have identified them under a microscope as Chlamydomonas nivalis, said the National Antarctic Scientific Centre of Ukraine in a Facebook post.

These microscopic green algae (well get to why they look red in a moment), a type of single-cellular seaweed, are common in all icy and snowy regions of Earth, from the arctic to alpine regions.

They lie slumbering during the brutal winter, but once the sunlight warms enough to soften their crystallised world, the algae spring awake, making use of the meltwater and sunlight to rapidly bloom.

The algae need liquid water in order to bloom, University of Leeds microbiologist Steffi Lutz told Gizmodo in 2016.

[The algal blooms] contribute to climate change, the centre stated.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are grateful to Her Majesty and the Royal Family for their ongoing support as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.

As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for Royal duties.

With The Queens blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations. While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.

The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.

In case you dont remember or havent seen one lately, the 3D photos work by analyzing a 2D picture and slicing it into a ton of layers that move separately when you tilt the phone or scroll. Im not a big fan of 3D anything, and I dont even use Facebook, but the simple fact is this feature is pretty cool.

The problem is it used the dual-camera feature to help the system determine distance, which informed how the picture should be sliced. That meant I, with my beautiful iPhone SE, was out of the running - along with about a billion other people who hadnt bought into the dual-camera thing yet.

But over the last few years the computer vision team over at Facebook has been working on making it possible to do this without dual-camera input. At last they succeeded, and this blog post explains, in terms technical enough that Im not even going to attempt to summarize them here, just how they did it.

The advances mean that many - though not all - relatively modern single-camera phones should be able to use the feature. Googles Pixel series is now supported, and single-camera iPhones from the 7 forward. The huge diversity of Android devices makes it hard to say which will and wont be supported - it depends on a few things not usually listed on the spec sheet - but youll be able to tell once your Facebook app updates and you take a picture.
