疫情带来的影响还在持续。迪士尼关闭有一段时间了，这也导致其营收遭到重创。

不过好消息是，上海迪士尼已经宣布要恢复运营了，并且还会实施一系列新的措施，包括实行限流、要求游客提前购票及预约入园等等。

Disney’s profit dropped a whopping 91% during the first three months of 2020, revealing the widespread damage that the coronavirus pandemic has brought on its media empire.

2020年第一季度，迪士尼利润骤降91%，这也体现了新冠疫情对这一传媒帝国的广泛影响。

Although sales for its second quarter were up 21% to $18 billion, Disney’s profit took an enormous hit from the closure of its twelve theme parks as well as mammoth costs associated with getting the Disney+ streaming service off the ground.

虽然第二季度销售额增长了21%，达到180亿美元，但迪士尼的利润遭受重创，因为有12家乐园关闭了，而且推出Disney+流媒体服务也需要耗费巨额成本。

The company’s parks, experiences and products unit was hit particularly hard by the outbreak. That segment’s operating income dropped a staggering 58% compared to last year - a result of Disney (DIS) shuttering its theme parks and resorts around the world. Shares of Disney’s stock fell roughly 2% in after-hours trading.

The company said its operating income on its Parks, Experiences and Products segment fell about $1 billion due to lost revenue. It estimates that the impacts of coronavirus across all its businesses was as much as $1.4 billion. All twelve of Disney’s parks in North America, Asia and Europe have been closed since March 15.

However, the company announced that Shanghai Disneyland, which has been closed since January, will re-open in phases on May 11. The park will welcome guests with new health and prevention procedures as well as limited attendance.

This is great news for vaccine development and for the scientists who are closely studying the virus. But that doesn’t mean it’s not mutating at all. Two new studies have recently been released analysing SARS-CoV-2 mutations. One study, from Arizona State University, discovered a large DNA deletion in a virus sample taken from a patient in Tempe.

这对疫苗研发和仔细研究这种病毒的科学家来说是个好消息，但并不意味着病毒就一点都没有发生突变。最新发布的两项新的研究分析了新冠病毒的突变。其中亚利桑那州立大学进行的研究在从坦佩市一位病人体内采集的病毒样本中发现了一大段DNA缺失。

The Arizona study generated three full-length SARS-CoV-2 genomes from a series of samples; they found that one of these genomes, which they’ve named AZ-ASU2923, had a large deletion - 81 DNA base pairs - in a gene called ORF7a.

The ORF7a gene creates an accessory protein, which helps the virus infect, replicate and spread inside the human host. Specifically, the protein is thought to help the virus to evade our immune system and kill the cell once the replication process is complete.

ORF7a基因产生辅助蛋白，帮助病毒在人体内感染、复制和传播。具体说来，这种蛋白质被认为能帮助病毒避开我们的免疫系统，一旦完成复制就会杀死细胞。

“One of the reasons why this mutation is of interest is because it mirrors a large deletion that arose in the 2003 SARS outbreak,” says one of the researchers, virologist Efrem Lim from Arizona State University.

Airbnb要裁员1900人

In the note, written by Airbnb  CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky, the company said that 1,900 employees will be laid off, or 25.3% of its 7,500 workers. The layoffs will impact a number of internal product groups, including Transportation and Airbnb Studios, efforts that will be placed on hold, and its Hotels and Lux work, which will be “scale[d] back.”

The company declined to break down per-country totals for the layoffs in a phone call with TechCrunch, but its memo did note that its staffing cuts are “mapped to a more focused business.” The former startup appears to be narrowing its efforts, targeting core operations and shedding more experimental and costly endeavours.

According to Chesky’s missive, Airbnb anticipates its 2020 revenue coming in under 50% of 2019’s total; Airbnb saw around $4.8 billion in revenue last year, according to reports.

字节跳动在海外推出了视频剪辑应用

Why it matters: The Chinese version of Viamaker, or Jianying, has been among the top 10 most-downloaded free apps on Apple’s App Store in China for more than 90 days, according to data from app store intelligence firm Sensor Tower.

这个消息为什么很重要？应用商店情报公司Sensor Tower的数据显示，中国版的Viamaker“剪映”超过90天在中国的苹果应用商店下载最多的免费应用中名列前十。

The app notched 5 million downloads in March, according to Sensor Tower. The app’s popularity may give a boost to Bytedance’s other video-streaming offerings, short video apps including the Chinese version of TikTok, known as Douyin, and Xigua, another popular offering.

Details: Bytedance initially launched Viamaker on April 24, according to the app’s page on Google’s Play store, which showed that its downloads exceeded 100,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.

The overseas version of the app is now available for four languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, according to its website.
