2018第一大难题出现！你听到的是Yanny还是Laurel？

最近必小编在国外网站遇到一个有趣的事情。

 

注意听下面这段音频，

你听到的是Yanny还是Laurel呢？

 

 

必小编表示听完之后真的傻傻分不清楚了！！！

 

这个问题最初是网友发到Reddit上的……

 

 

谁知一石激起千层浪，Yanny党和Laurel党吵翻了……

 

Laurel党表示，绝对不可能听到Yanny！

"I heard Laurel and everyone is a liar."

 “我听到的是Laurel，其他人都是骗子。”

 

 

而Yanny党表示不服！

"Clearly it is Yanny and it isn’t even close to Laurel, unless Laurel is now pronounced Yanny."

“很明显，就是Yanny，而且根本和Laurel没有半点相似好么，除非Laurel现在发Yanny的音。”

 

就连美国脱口秀节目《艾伦秀》的主持人也凑热闹表示，啥都不干了，听听到底是啥！

 

 

讲真，我的节目啥啥都停了，看看人们到底听到的是Laurel还是Yanny。我听到的是Laurel。

 

 

Well, Laurel还是Yanny，不同的人听到不同的发音，这究竟是为什么呢？

现在必小编这就为大家科普一波！！！

 

 

1. 人们会听出不同结果，一部分原因可能是每个人耳朵构造（the mechanics of your ears）的不同。

 

 

Older adults tend to start losing their hearing at the higher frequency ranges, which could explain why Riecke could only hear Laurel, but his eight-year-old daughter could hear Yanny.

年长一点的人开始失去听见更高频率声音的能力，这就解释了为什么Riecke只能听见Laurel，而他8岁的女儿可以听见Yanny。 

 

 

 

2. 另一个原因，可能是播放设备的问题。

 

 

Some of the variation may be due to the audio system playing the sound.

播放声音的音频系统也可能造成不同的结果。

比如用没有低频的手机播放，你听到的可能是Yanny，而用有低频的扬声器播放，你听到的可能是Laurel。

And changing the sound mix to emphasize higher or lower frequencies might tip you toward Laurel or Yanny.

3. 最后，你的大脑也是一个原因。

德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校的教授Bharath Chandrasekaran解释说：

What you hear — everything you hear — is shaped in some way by your previous experiences. This is most obvious with music, where training makes it easier to identify component parts of a symphony.

在某些方面，你听到的一切都和你过往经验有关。比较明显的一个例子是音乐，受过训练的耳朵很容易就能分辨出交响乐中各种乐器的声音。

The New York Times tracked down 18-year-old Lawrenceville, Ga. high school student Roland Szabo, who had explained on his Reddit feed that he recorded the pronunciation for Laurel provided by the website Vocabulary.com, directly off of his computer speakers, which accounts for the iffy quality -- and also some of the ambiguity.

《纽约时报》找到了佐治亚州劳伦斯维尔高中18岁学生罗兰·萨博，他解释了Reddit上的音频。他是从Vocabulary.com网站用电脑话筒直接录下来Laurel的发音的，这也解释了为什么录音质量不好，甚至有些含糊不清。

Regardless of the fact that his classmates also didn't agree what they were hearing, the word was still Laurel.
