不只有looking for，“翻箱倒柜”还有其他表达

童鞋们有没有遇到这样一个怪现象：不用东西时，这些东西就在眼前，要用东西时，

“翻箱倒柜”都找不到！

但有时我们不一定是翻了箱子倒了柜子去找东西，而只是想表达当时我们的动作和情景，

所以我们可以用下面的表达：

 

 

1. root around 翻找，翻寻 （或者root through/in）

root的本意是根；根源，作动词表达翻找，翻寻，这个短语尤指在其他物品中寻找，搜寻。

 

 

例句

She rooted through the bag, found what she wanted, and headed toward the door.

她在这个包里搜寻了一番，找到了她想要的东西，然后朝门口走去。

 

 

2. turn ……upside down 将……翻了个底朝天

这个短语指你搜遍了整个角落，常常还留下一片狼藉。

 

 

例句

The thieves turned the room upside down.

小偷把屋子弄得个乱七八糟。

 

 

 

3. like finding a needle in a haystack  （东西难找）像大海捞针

这里haystack是干草堆的意思，在草堆里找针（needle），不就是大海捞针嘛！

 

 

 

例句

The movie theater was so crowded that getting a seat was like finding a needle in a haystack.

电影院大爆棚，想找到一个座位可谓大海捞针。
