Actress Felicity Huffman was sentenced last Friday to 14 days in prison for her role in the college admissions scandal.
美国当地时间9月13日（上周五），《绝望主妇》中的女演员Felicity Huffman由于在大学入学舞弊案中的行为被判入狱14天。
Along with prison time, U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani sentenced Huffman to a $30,000 fine, supervised release for one year and 250 hours of community service in the scandal’s first sentencing of a parent. Huffman, along with actress Lori Loughlin, is also one of the case’s most famous.

The difference comes down to their plea decisions: Huffman pleaded guilty, while Loughlin pleaded not guilty.

Huffman pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement with the prosecutor, lowering the length of her sentence. Loughlin, meanwhile, is going to trial. If she is convicted by a jury, she could face up to 20 years per charge.

The actors are also accused of investing vastly different amounts of money in the scheme: $15,000 for Huffman and $500,000 for Loughlin.

In court last Friday, Huffman apologized for her role in the scandal, saying, “I take full responsibility of my actions and making amends with my crime. I will deserve whatever punishment you give me.” She must report to prison on Oct. 25.

It was all orchestrated by William Rick Singer, CEO of a college admissions prep company called The Key. Singer pleaded guilty to four charges and admitted that everything a prosecutor accused him of “is true.”

Huffman, in a letter to the judge submitted before the hearing, said she feared she would be a “bad mother” if she didn’t take part in Singe’s cheating scheme. She said she didn’t want her daughter, who has learning disabilities, to not get admitted to college because of a low math score.
本案9月13日开庭前，Huffman在递交给法官的信件中表示，如果不加入辛格的作弊计划，她就担心自己成为了一位“坏母亲”，并表示，不希望自己有学习障碍的女儿因为数学成绩不佳而失去入学机会。
“Trying to be a good mother doesn’t excuse this,” the judge said.

Huffman said that she accepts the “court’s decision today without reservation” in a statement released to the media.
在13日当天宣判后给媒体的声明中，Huffman表示她“毫无保留的接受法庭今日的判决。”
“I broke the law. I have admitted that and I pleaded guilty to this crime. There are no excuses or justifications for my actions.” Huffman said in the statement. “I would like to apologize again to my daughter, my husband, my family and the educational community for my actions. And I especially want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices supporting their children.”
