One beautiful spring morning,

在春天一个美丽的早晨，

A merchant loaded his donkey with bags of salt to go to the market in order to sell them.

商人把几袋子盐放在驴的背上准备去集市上卖掉这些盐。

 

 

 

 

The merchant and his donkey were walking along together.

商人和他的驴一起走啊走。

They had not walked far when they reached a river on the road.

刚走不远，他们就到了一条河旁边。

Unfortunately, the donkey slipped and fell into the river，

不幸的是，驴子滑到掉进了河里，
And noticed that the bags of salt 

loaded on his back became lighter.

然而驴子发现原本背在背上装盐的袋子

因为落水后盐顺势流到河里而变轻了。

 

There was nothing the merchant could do,

商人无计可施，

Except return home where he loaded his donkey with more bags of salt.

他只能返回家中将其他几袋子盐放在驴子背上。

As they reached the slippery riverbank,

当他们又走到那个湿滑的河畔时，

Now deliberately, the donkey fell into the river

驴子故意掉进水里

And wasted all the bags of salt on its back again.

再一次弄湿装盐的袋子然后爬上了岸。

 

 

 

 

 

The merchant quickly discovered the donkey’s trick.

商人很快便发现了驴子的把戏。

He then returned home again.

于是他又回到家中。

But re-loaded his donkey with bags of sponges.

但是这次，他在袋子里放了海绵。

The foolish, tricky donkey again set on its way.

自作聪明的驴子又上路了。

On reaching the river he again fell into the water.

当他们到达那条河时，他又假装掉进了河里。

But instead of the load becoming lighter, it became heavier.

但这次，袋子没有变轻，而是越来越重了。

 

 

 

 

The merchant laughed at him and said:

商人嘲笑驴子说：

“You foolish donkey, your trick had been discovered,

“你这愚蠢的驴啊，你的把戏已经被我发现了！ 

You should know that, those who are too clever sometimes over reach themselves.”

你需要明白，有些人啊会聪明地过了头哦！”
